Leviathan Hold on vs Omega

23 05 2013

The team hanging outIn the past 2 weeks, the White Stone Leviathan have played 2 extremely close games. In last weeks game, the guys lost 13-12 against Westbrook Alpha. In this weeks game, the Leviathan held on to be Westbrook Omega by a score of 13-11. Some great defense, solid pitching, and timely hitting all contributed towards the Leviathan’s second victory this season. Shortstop Josh Watson come up big-time as he belted a homer to left and highlighted a 3-run 5th inning. Watson led the team on Tuesday with 3 hits, a double, a homerun, 3rsbi, and 3runs scored. Other offensive team leaders were Doug Harper (2 hits, 2rbi, run), Brad Fraser (3 for 3, 2 rbi, run), Tigh Kemnitz (2 hits, rbi, run), and Richard “the tour” LaTour (2 hits, 2runs).

Former coach Matt Sell was in attendance on Tuesday, and was honored with a 5-minute long standing ovation. Sell graciously tipped his cap and then kindly mingled with the local town folk. Sell had this to say to Sports Illustrated after the game,
“It’s great being back here. The sounds of the ballpark everywhere, the crack of the (metal) bats, the screams of the children…this is where I belong. I enjoyed watching my former team play a good game and get the win—although the coaching was quite suspect at several points of the game…and I definitely would’ve benched a few guys…and probably chewed out the kid umpire for some of those crazy calls. Besides all that, I had a lot of fun!”

The Leviathan are now 2-1 on the young season and tied in 2nd place in the league. Next week the guys take on the undefeated, league-leading Dr Martin Luther (2) at Fireman’s Park (@7pm). Please make sure to come and cheer on the White Stone guys! A special congratulations to our White Stone Behemoth brothers for their 1st win of the season, as they defeated DR Beacons 17-8!
