White Stone’s Postseason Run Ends

2nd baseman Adam Andrus

It was a tough pill to swallow on Tuesday night at Legion Field, as the Divine Redeemer Beacons defeated the Men of Stone by a score of 12-7. The loss ends White Stone’s season and gives them a final record of 8-6. Three starters were missing for White Stone (two were in Malawi, Africa, on a missions trip), making the goal of victory all the more difficult. To make matters worse, 2nd baseman/leadoff hitter, Adam Andrus, was playing on a broken foot—surgery scheduled for the following Friday.

The Beacons started off the game scoring a handful of runs, and making it tough for the Men of Stone to catch their breath. White Stone did do their best to hold the Beacons, as Michael Javornik made a great play at shortstop while sitting on his butt. Also, 2nd baseman Adam Andrus made a fantastic over-the-shoulder catch while sprinting out to right field. Jim Fraser got some major air as he took a base hit away on a sharply-hit line drive. Finally, right fielder Terry Andrus also made a great running & jumping play in the outfield. White Stone did make some costly errors in the field, however, leaving players and fans alike wondering, “What if…?”
On the offensive side of things, White Stone was lead by the hitting of Jake Andrus (4 hits), Luke Dye (3 hits), and Terry Andrus (3 hits). Robert Murphy and Jake Andrus also had a homerun each, in the loss.

Coach Matt Sell had this to say after the heartbreaking loss,
“It was a great year, and yeah, of course i’m upset that we lost, but we definitely gave it our all. We had some great performances this year—Terry Andrus comes to mind as someone who has to be in consideration for the “League Comeback Player of the Year” award! Also Luke Dye, who ended the season as the average leader (.679). We also set a team record for most wins in a season with 8…so yeah, i am happy. All i have to say is this…next year, all missions trips will be scheduled around the softball games!”

Thanks to everyone who has made this 2010 Men of Stone Softball season a fun one…the players, who gave %100 every game, and especially, the FANS! You fans are BY FAR the BEST fans in the entire league! Thanks for all your energy, support, and encouragement!!! Finally, thanks to God, for the chance to have fun playing softball and fellowship with fellow believers…God, You rock!
