Tough Loss in Opener for MOS

5 05 2010

The Men of Stone fought hard to come back Tuesday evening against Westbrook Omega, but it just wasn’t enough as they were defeated by a score of 5-7. The game was cut short after 5 innings due to lack of time.

Robert Murphy and Josh Watson both hit home runs to lead the offense…however, they were the only bright spots for the MOS.

Westbrook got out to a quick lead in the 2nd inning by putting 2 runs on the board.  They followed that with a 5 run 3rd inning to make things look bleak for the MOS.

But in the bottom half of the 3rd the MOS bats started to come alive.  Josh Watson put the Men on the board with a solo home run to start the scoring.  Then in the 4th inning a combination of power and finess tightened the game.  A 2-run homer by Robert Murphy closed the gap to 7-3.  Then a 2-run single by Adam Andrus cut the Westbrook lead to 2.

But that was all the fight the MOS could muster.  Pitching and fielding kept Westbrook at bay.  But missed opportunities in both the 4th and 5th innings by ending the inning with 2 men on base ended up costing the MOS a chance to with the game.

Thanks to all of the fans that came out to the opener to support the team.
