It was all smiles as the MOS beat Westbrook Alpha

The Men of Stone Softball Team knew they had a tough battle ahead of them. It’s the second round of the league playoffs, and just two weeks ago they faced Westbrook Alpha and got whipped. This game was different, though, as White Stone beat Alpha by a score of 10-5.

There were many players who shined in this team win—and the defense again was very solid. If defense wins championships, than White Stone has to feel good about their chances. Luke Schweng, Adam Andrus, and Josh Watson made some great plays in the infield, and Terry Andrus (“Hoover”) and Jim Fraser played a mean firstbase. The outfield was again tough, as Tigh Kemnitz, Robert Murphy, Ryan Duel, Dave Fisher, and Jake Andrus manned up. Because Doug Harper was gone on a “team promotion tour”, Richard LaTour had to pitch a complete game…and Richard pitched great! Only allowing 3 runs in the first inning, and 2 runs in the 7th inning, Richard flabbergasted a potent Westbrook Alpha offense…the big dude didn’t even hit any bombs!

The White Stone offense also showed up, and they were lead by Adam Andrus, Luke Schweng, and slugger Robert Murphy. Murphy blasted a 3-Run Homer to right center, and put the MOS ahead for good.

White Stone catcher Luke Dye had this to say about the big win,
“Tonight we played as a team, and as a team, we won. You know, when i was growing up, my gymnastics coach always said to us, “there’s no “i” in team”, and i really didn’t know what it meant. Tonight, i think i truly found the meaning of what she meant. Coach Sally also told us that if you switch a few letters around, you can turn “team” into “meat”…and that was my motivation tonight. Since we won, i am gonna treat myself to a nice, big, juicy steak. And then i will perform a tumbling routine.”

White Stone advances to the 3rd round of the league playoffs for the first time, and they look to keep the dream alive. The probable opponent for next week is 1st place Oakwood Blue. White Stone lost to Blue late in the season by a score of 17-11—but you can throw that out the window, ‘cuz it’s the playoffs, baby! Come out and support your MOS! Time, place, and opponent TBD.
