In a steamy one on Tuesday night at Del-Town Park, the MOS played possibly their best game of the season beating Dr Martin Luther (1) by a score of 13-1. Everything seemed to be going White Stone’s way from the start, as they tacked 3 runs on the board in the first inning, and never looked back.
The defense had a great game, rebounding from mediocre performances the last few games. A total of 3 double-plays were turned, 2 from the 6-4 combo of Josh Watson and Adam Andrus. Michael Javornik also made some impressive plays while manning 3rd base. The outfield was solid, as Dave Fisher made a few good plays in right-center, and Jake Andrus nearly made a sliding play in right, but the umpire correctly called it a trap. Richard LaTour tossed a complete game, and nearly the first shutout in Men of Stone history. LaTour started the game off shaky, walking the first two men he faced, but then got it together and pitched a fantastic game.
Some key hits came from Dave Fisher, Josh Watson, Jake Andrus, and Richard LaTour. After the game, Richard LaTour had this to say,
“Of course, every night i throw, i intend to strike everyone out and pitch a perfect game…but that doesn’t happen very often, so of course, i am happy to get the win tonight. But i will lose a lot of sleep tonight thinking about that 1 run i gave up. Coming up on the All-Star break, i was hoping to at least pitch a shutout which would all but guarantee a spot on the West All-Star team. Oh well, at least the ump didn’t see the super-glue i was hiding in my loafers.”
The Men of Stone even up their record at 4-4, and look to get above .500 next week as they do battle with St. Catherine’s @ 6pm on Tuesday. Come cheer on the MOS – fan support has been AMAZING so far!!! The guys thank everyone who has come out!!!
