MOS Lose a Tight One

12 05 2009

In a good battle, the night ended with the Men of Stone dropping their first game of the season. The men from White Stone lost to a tough Oakwood Red team by a score of 18-6. The score was 5-5 going into the bottom of the 5th inning, when Oakwood scored 2 runs to make it 7-5. In the top of the 6th, the MOS stranded Luke Dye on 2nd base, keeping Oakwood up by 2. In the bottom of the 6th, Oakwood blew it open with 11 runs; good Oakwood hitting and poor fielding was a deadly combination for White Stone.

White Stone did have some highlights, as Ryan Duel and Luke Dye continued their hot hitting. Doug Harper just missed (made from where i was standing) a huge bases clearing double, but it was a tough call and the ump called it foul. Jake Andrus added his first homer of the season, but it was too little, too late. Oakwood proved to be too much for White Stone—with a combo of great pitching, good fielding, and very good hitting—they will be a force in the league this year.

Next Week the Men of Stone try to rebound and get back to their winning ways as they play Westbrook Omega @ Fireman’s Park (6pm). Make sure to come out and root on the guys!
