9 Run Inning Carry MOS to Victory

5 05 2009

The Men of Stone Softball team won their second game of the season on Tuesday, defeating Christ the King Church by a score of 16-8 @ DelTown Park. The victory was especially sweet, considering that Christ the King Church handed the MOS their worst loss of 2008 (the MOS were defeated by 12).

The men from White Stone were down 1-0 early, when they stormed back. There were 2-outs, no one on base, when Ryan Duel started the rally with a base hit. After that, hit after hit came—from the middle and bottom of the order. Pitcher Richard LaTour helped his own cause by hitting a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double! The eventually MOS finished off the inning with 9 runs! More key hits that inning came from Tigh Kemnitz, Luke Schweng, Matt Sell, Terry Andrus, and Luke Dye.

Although not as spectacular as last week, the Men of Stone defense was solid behind LaTour. Most routine plays were made, with only a couple of errors made. An amazing double-play was made when 3rd baseman, Luke Schweng threw to second baseman Adam Andrus…Andrus dropped the ball but quickly recovered, picked up the ball to step and second and fired to firstbaseman Terry Andrus to complete the twin killing.

Firstbaseman Jim Fraser had this to say of the game,
“Duel got our rally innings started, and the rest of the order came up clutch for us tonight! My son-in-law had a huge game tonight—he really proved himself worthy of my daughter! Keep it up, son…i love you.”

Big swings of the bat also came from Josh Watson, Dave Fisher, and Jake Andrus. A great crowd helped cheer on the Men of Stone to victory, improving their record to 2-0, while Christ the King Church fall to 0-2 on the season. Come cheer on the MOS next Tuesday as they take on a tough Oakwood Red team at the Fish Hatchery @ 7pm!

Another good game this week guys. We have a big test tomorrow with Oakwood Red. We just need to stay focused on doing the things that each of us do best. I think we can definitely pull this one off!
