Men of Stone start off on the right foot!

The Men of Stone started the season the best way possible—with a win! The MOS won the opener and defeated the DR Beacons by a score of 10-6 @ the Fish Hatchery!

Even though the MOS were not able to practice their defense much in the off-season (like, no practice at all), the defense was beautiful! The middle infield combo of Josh Watson and Adam Andrus provided many spectacular plays, while the outfield made some great plays of their own! And the defense wasn’t the only thing that was working—timely hits by the middle of the order (mainly newcomers Terry Andrus and Robert Murphy, Ty Kemnitz, Matt Sell, Luke Dye, and Luke Schweng) made the difference in the game! Also, late inning inside-the-park homers from Dave Fisher and Josh Watson added much needed insurance runs.

The Fish Hatchery field was soaked and soft, and even though it was chilly, the MOS toughed out a hard-fought victory. It was close in the final inning of the game, but a deep fly out with the bases loaded ended the DR Beacons comeback.

“Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!” said MOS Skipper Matt Sell after the game.

  1. There were also a couple of stellar defensive plays by left fielder Jake Andrus with a diving catch in foul territory, followed by the game-ending running and “diving” catch.

  2. yeah, that jake guy is the real deal! he puts out some stinkin awesome write-ups about the games every week. it’s like he has a degree in journalism or something and has worked for sports illustrated for years!

not only that, but the power at the plate he produces and then the diving grabs in the outfield… man – if this kid just had a little team spirit and wore his uniform to games, he’d be the full package!!
