MOS defeat League Leaders in 7th

18 06 2008

The Men of Stone needed a run with two-outs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat league leading Oakwood Blue on Tuesday night @ Delafield Park. The final score was 12-11. The loss was the first for Oakwood Blue (6-1) as the MOS improve to 4-1-1 on the year.

The game started off good for the MOS as they scored 3 runs in the first, highlighted by a homerun from Jake Andrus. Adam Andrus continued his hot streak as he also added a three-run opposite field homerun. Richard LaTour and Doug Harper combined to pitch a great game, as the strikes were plentiful and the walks were not. The defense, lead by shortstop Josh Watson, was solid this week after a “less-than-stellar” performance last week. Overall, this probably was the Men of Stone’s best performance of the year. Left Center Fielder Jake Kerr had this to say after the game,

“Today we played really well! Our defense was solid-besides Jake’s bonehead misplay in the 7th-and our hitting got the job done. As we scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th, i got really excited—like when i had my 7 year old birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese and Chuck-E actually came up to me and gave me a high-five! Although, when we won the game, i didn’t pee my pants…”

In the bottom of the 7th, the score was tied, the bases were loaded, and there were 2 outs. It all came down to catcher Luke Dye. Luke hit a ball right up the middle, and the shortstop misplayed the ball and allowed Coach Matt Sell to score the winning run. Matt then did his best impersonation of Spider Man as he scaled the backstop fence.

The MOS try to continue their winning ways as they play Christ the King @ 6pm at Fireman’s Park in Delafield. The first 10 kids 12-and-under will receive a Doug Harper nesting doll.
