The Men of Stone started off the game on Tuesday in hot fashion, scoring 4 runs early in the first inning, and they added 2 more in the 2nd…unfortunately, the Dr Martin Luther (1) squad also had their bats going. After 2 innings, the score was tied 6-6.
The MOS defense was much improved from last week, with some especially nice plays in the infield. The Stoners’ also turned their first double-play of the year…the 6-4-3 double-play was turned with the aid of Josh Watson, Adam Andrus, and Jim Fraser.
Timely hitting came from Ty Kemnitz, Luke Dye, and Jake Kerr…who all had big hits to drive in runs. The MOS also had some great hustle, as a few infield dribblers turned into singles.
The score was tied 11-11 going into the 8th (extra innings), and even though the Men of Stone had 2 runners in scoring position, they couldn’t come through with a clutch hit. The bottom of the 8th started off bad, as a DML hitter drove a double over the left fielders head. The next batter, also had a two bagger, with the other runner holding at third. With DML runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs, things looked bad for the White Stone Men—DML only needed to get one run in to win the game. A ground ball was sent to second by the next batter, and 2nd baseman Adam Andrus held the man at third, and then threw out the batter at first. Because the man originally on second broke for third, first baseman Jake Andrus was able to easily run at him and tag him out for the double-play. Now, there was 2 outs with the winning run on 3rd. DML’s last hope flied out to Ryan Duel in left field to end the game in a 11-11 draw.
Shortstop Josh Watson had this to say about the 11-11 tie,
“i was hoping that when we had the lead (earlier in the game) that it would just rain and we’d be done with it…but i guess the Lord wanted us to tie this one. It’s too bad we don’t play in some little kids’ field, because i totally would’ve hit like 3 homeruns and this thing would’ve been over LONG AGO. Oh well, we’ll be ready for next week’s game against St Catherine’s—you can bet your house/apartment/condo on it!”
The MOS are now 0-1-1 and they take on St Catherine’s @ 6pm at the Town of Delafield Park…make sure to come out and support the Men of Stone as it is Adam Andrus miniature ball day—all fans 5 and under receive a mini-ball with Adam’s signature.
