Good effort comes up short

In a game against possibly the best hitting team in the league, the MOS (3-3) came up short by a score of 19-8 vs Westbrook Alpha (4-2). Westbrook used a 10-run 4th inning to seal the deal late Tuesday evening at Fireman’s Park. The Men of Stone, overall, did play a fine game. The team used good hitting, smart base running, and some fine plays in the field to keep the game close. There were two defensive plays that really stuck out. First of all, Jake Andrus made a snap throw from left field to Adam Andrus at second base to pick off a man who made too large of turn—Adam made a great dig on a short-hop! The most amazing defensive play came when Matt Elstad made an over-the-shoulder grab as he was sprinting out to shallow left field! Wow.

The Westbrook Alpha squad was just too much to overcome, however, as they used their big 4th inning, and also a huge 500ft home run by their big first-baseman to close out the scoring. Left fielder Jake Andrus was proud of the way his teammates played against Westbrook.

“I was really happy the way we came together against Westbrook…we had a really tough game to start out the night, but we put it behind us and played a good game. I still believe our best games are in front of us, though! Once we consistently start hitting line drives and make routine defensive plays, we will be a tough team to beat…and I think that will be in the near future!”

The loss drops the Men of Stone to .500 as they are 3-3, and the win improves Westbrook Alpha’s record to 4-2. Next week the MOS take on Dr. Martin Luther King (2) @ 7pm at the Fish Hatchery—please come out and continue to support the team!!!
